There are more than 100,000 volunteer firefighters in the state of New York alone, and you could be one of them. We're always accepting new applications for membership. No experience required. We offer free training and certification through New York State Fire and Safety training. Interested in becoming an EMT, we offer free EMT certification training through a variety of local partners.
Once you join, you'll get issued a Gardiner Fire Department uniform and pager. We'll provide you with the training and certifications you need to get started. You decide how much time you can dedicate and you only respond to the calls you're available. We also host weekly training drills and monthly drills with departments in our battalion.
To learn more, contact: hello@gardinerfirerescue.org.
Members of another department that have relocated their home or business to Gardiner are welcome to apply.
The first step to joining Gardiner Fire Department is downloading the member application and filling it out. Once you've filled it out, the best way to submit your application is to email it to membership@gardinerfireandrescue.org or bring it to one of our monthly meetings, which are held on the first Monday of each month at 7pm. However, if you'd prefer, you can also mail your application to: Gardiner Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 271, Gardiner, New York, 12525.
Once your application has been received, you'll meet with the Investigating Committee to review your application. An arson and driving record background check will be performed and when those have cleared, your application will be presented and voted on during the next monthly meeting. The final step after being voted in by the membership body is to have the Gardiner Fire District commissioners vote to approve your application.
After all that, you'll be a probationary member of the Gardiner Fire Department! At that point, you'll be issued equipment, begin to participate in our weekly trainings and you'll also be eligible for state trainings. You'll also start to respond to emergency calls and accrue points for LOSAP (Length of Service Award Program, which is similar to a pension).
If there's anything that you're unsure of, or have any questions about, we encourage you to attend a monthly meeting or any of our drills to see what we're about and have your questions answered. Check out the upcoming events on the homepage for more information on those dates and times.
